What led you to become a doctor or choose your focus of medicine? My best friend - my grandfather - died of lung cancer when I was 11 years old. I went to all of his radiation and chemotherapy appointments with him. Before he died, he asked me to promise to do something to help people like him. I promised, and I knew this was my calling. After 20+ years of school, I am fulfilling my promise and my calling as an oncologist at Baptist.
What do you think is the most important factor in a doctor-patient relationship?
Trust. They must know that the physician has their best interests in mind and that she or he will fight for them. All patients should know that their doctor supports and cares for them.
What can a patient expect when they have you as a physician?
A cancer diagnosis can be devastating, but it's my hope to provide each patient comfort and hope. Good can come from a cancer diagnosis and I strive to communicate that with each of my patients. I also find it very important to take time to pray with each patient.
